Men of the anti-kidnapping squad of the Imo State Police Command have arrested three persons in connection with the kidnapping of two children.

It was gathered that the kidnappers on August 4, 2019 at about 11 pm invaded the house of one Ijeoma Opunwa, inflicted machete cuts on one Mr. Daberechi Okafor who was present at the time of their invasion, instilled fear in other occupants and made away with two children, 4-year-old Oluma Chukwu and Promise Opunwa, aged two.

The hoodlums were also said to have robbed the victims of their phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

It was gathered that upon receipt of the information, operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the police swung into action and stormed the hoodlums hide-out at Umuololo Okigwe, where they arrested the three suspects, Ogechi Anuruo, Chika Obi, and Chiamaka Nwadinobi.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the development, said the suspects on interrogation confessed their involvement in the crime and also led operatives to Onitsha via Uli in Anambra State, where their gang members one Ebere Okafor and Chioma Ngobiri were arrested and one of the stolen children (Promise Opunwa), was rescued.

He said efforts are on-going to recover the other stolen child.
