Operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Imo State have arrested five suspected child traffickers and rescued nine children from their custodies.

The children were said to have been abducted from Owerri, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo state and Benin in Edo State.

It was gathered that the police arrested two suspects, Chioma Emeka, 34, of Okigwe Local Government Area of  Imo State and Happiness Peter, 22, of Iyala Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River state. 

It was further gathered that on July 24 at Akokwa in the Ideato North LGA, four children, three boys and one girl, were rescued from their abductors. The suspects arrested in connection to this are Theresa Asiegbu, 48, and Ikewete Lucyanna, 53.

A police source said, “The suspects have confessed to the crime revealing that they bought the children for N500,000 to N600,000 each.”

Also, it was gathered that on August 17, F-SARS operatives in the command working on an information travelled to Agbor park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City in Edo State and arrested one Martina Nwadike, 51, of Obodoukwu in  Ideato North LGA of Imo State but resident at Benin City. Two children were reportedly rescued in the operation.

The police source said one of the suspects confessed that she bought the children from one Chioma Emeka of Umuanum Oke, Okigwe, earlier arrested on August 15, at the rate of N400,000 and N300.000 . 

The state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, told our correspondent yesterday that the suspects would be charged to court.
