The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested six notorious armed robbery suspects linked to a series of violent crimes, particularly around nightclubs and recreational centers within the Abuja metropolis.
CP Miller G. Dantawaye, who disclosed this on Saturday, said the suspects were apprehended at about 5:45 pm on Friday. He said the arrest followed credible intelligence gathered after his directive to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
He said the DCP of SCID, Aliyu Abubakar, subsequently deployed a discreet, intelligence-led operation headed by ACP Victor Godfrey, the Commander of the Scorpion Squad.
The command said the team successfully tracked and raided the gang’s hideout at Dakwa, in the Dei-Dei area of the FCT, where the suspects were caught while planning a fresh attack.
He gave the names of the arrested suspects as Suleiman Magaji, Abdullahi Abubakar, Abubakar Shitu, Sani Ibrahim, Rabiu Dahiru, and Ahmed Abdullahi.
CP Dantawaye revealed that preliminary investigations linked the suspects to several armed robbery incidents within the FCT. This includes a recent robbery a hostel in Wuse 11, where a hotel guest was dispossessed of gold jewelry valued at approximately N15 million.
“The stolen items were reportedly sold by the suspects for the sum of N1.2 million,” the commissioner said.
Exhibits recovered during the investigation included a black toy gun, local charms, long and short knives, and 42 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
He said the suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody.
