The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), yesterday, paraded eight suspects allegedly involved in kidnapping, murder, ritual killings and exhuming corpses.
The Force spokesman, DCP Jimoh Moshood, who paraded the suspects in Abuja, said the suspects were also involved in trading in human skulls and other human body parts in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Moshood said during a search operation, 11 human skulls, some pieces of human bones, human hair, and powder suspected to be ground human bones and charms were also recovered.
He said working on actionable intelligence from public spirited individuals in the area, the police swung into action, obtained search warrant and moved into the house of one Azeez Yakub of No. 20 Ile Opa Adeta compound, Ilorin.
He said further investigations by the Special Team of the IGP Monitoring Unit led to the arrest of 7 other suspects: Azeez Yakub, Abdulrasaq Babamale, Aishat Yunisa, Lukman Saka, Ahmed Yahaya, Abdulfatai Kadri (aka Adedoyin) – Vigilante Commander, Adeta Zone, Ilorin; Soliu Ayinde (aka Baba Fawasi) and Abdulganiyu Bamidele.
“The suspects confessed and admitted to have sold 31 human heads to some personalities in Ilorin and other towns in the state and other states,” he said.
The force spokesman added that all the suspects made confessional statements to the police on the various roles they played in the crime.
He said investigation was ongoing and efforts were being made to arrest other suspects still at large, adding that they would be arraigned on completion of investigation.
Speaking to journalists, Yakubu said that Kadri brought 20 human skulls that he exhumed from the Ilorin community central cemetery.
He said he usually brought them in batches of four, six, and eight for safe keeping and collected them within a day or two.
Yakubu said Kadri also informed him of personalities in Ilorin and other parts of the state that he supplied the human parts to.
