The FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma, said the command arrested seven suspected car thieves along Bwari axis, Abuja.

Ciroma, while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, gave the names of the suspects as Abbas Ibrahim, John Aefa, Jerry Bulus, Uzochukwu Micheal, Abdulrahman Suleiman and Stanley Okeke.

He said the notorious seven-man gang was nabbed by police operatives while dispossessing their victim of his car at gunpoint.

He said unknown to the suspects, a tracking device was installed in the vehicle, adding that the suspects confessed to being responsible for the car theft and several atrocities perpetrated in the Bwari axis.

He said exhibits recovered from the suspects included three locally made pistols, four live cartridges, a Toyota Matrix car, nine phones and six ATM cards from different banks.

He also said that the police detectives from the command’s anti-car theft unit have arrested one Suraju Ibrahim, who is a member of a two-man gang in Zamfara State for car snatching and theft.

According to him, the suspect confessed to belonging to a gang that specialises in monitoring unsuspecting victims before carrying out their mission along the Abuja-Kaduna axis.

“And concerted effort is also being made to apprehend one Abdullahi, who is at large, while exhibits recovered from the suspect included silver-coloured Toyota Matrix with registration number ABC 584 PA and ash-coloured Toyota Camry,” he said.

The commissioner added that the police detectives have also arrested one Faruk Umar in Kaduna for stealing a vehicle belonging to his employer.

He said the suspect intended to use the vehicle for commercial purpose before he was arrested by police operatives of the command, and that all the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
