He said it was during a stop and search operation at Gidan Mangoro that the police spotted a Toyota Camry with registration number GBK 76HG a few meters away from the police duty post.

According to him, with the receipt of the information, the police commenced surveillance of the area along with the vigilantes.

He said the suspect, who gave his name as Fabian Ukeugbona, later got into the car and zoomed off, which he said prompted the officers to give the suspect a hot chase which led to his arrest and recovery of the car, and the seizure of the hemp.

He said the suspect would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

“And the suspect, in a voluntary statement, admitted to committing the crime, stating that he had been in the criminal enterprise for over three years,” he said.

The police commissioner noted that the arrest came barely a week after two other suspects were arrested and 100 bags of hemp recovered from them.
