The police command in Anambra State has arrested three male suspects in connection with the illegal possession of a firearm and involvement in illicit drug activities.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday in Awka, said the suspects were apprehended at a motel in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Ikenga said operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible information in the late hours of February 9, stormed the motel where the arrests were made.

He noted that the suspects are aged 39, 26, and 18, respectively.

He further disclosed that during the search, one Jojef pump-action gun (breach number 21SA-0724) loaded with three live cartridges was recovered at the scene. (NAN)

According to Ikenga, the owner of the motel—one of the three suspects—confessed to the crime during interrogation.

“His confession led to the arrest of the other two suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, Crystal Methamphetamine (popularly known as ‘Mkpuru-mmiri’), and ‘Colos’,” Ikenga said.

The spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against criminal elements in the state.

He urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid policing efforts, assuring that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses. (NAN)
