Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and alleged cultist in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos, recovering a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and charms.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Odeshola Afeez, was apprehended following a distress call from residents who reported that a young man was harassing members of the public and creating panic within the community.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest, saying that officers were immediately deployed to the area after receiving the report.
She said the suspect was arrested and subjected to a search, during which the firearm, ammunition and charms were allegedly found in his possession.
“The suspect had reportedly evaded arrest on several occasions before his eventual capture by police operatives” she said.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved for their swift response and professionalism.
He reiterated the command’s determination to rid the state of cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes, stressing that criminal elements would find no safe haven in Lagos.
The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue and he would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
