The police in Kaduna have arrested a suspected drug dealer with over 250,000 packets of suspected fake medicine capsules. The police spokesman in the state, ASP Muktar Aliyu, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna. Aliyu said the suspect was arrested on December 22 based on intelligence report.

“We received intelligence report that suspected adulterated counterfeit and fake drugs have been sighted at Sabon Gari Central Market Area in Kaduna metropolis.

“A surveillance team was promptly deployed to the scene whereby large quantities of Amcloxin Capsules amounting to 250,000 packets strongly suspected to be fake were recovered by our operatives,” Aliyu said. 

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs recovered were substandard, adding that the seizure would soon be sent for laboratory analysis.

He also confirmed the interception of fake drugs worth over N15 million in a raid of the market. A source said the case would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police headquarters in Kaduna for further investigation.

The source also said that no fewer than 15 drug addicts were arrested in Zaria with Indian hemp, trampoline and other intoxicants.

“These suspected drug addicts will be charged to court to face the wrath of the law. The police will not relent in its efforts at combating criminal activities in the society.

“Remember, most crimes are committed after the perpetrators get intoxicated. Therefore, members of the society must feel free to furnish the security agencies with vital information,” the source said.
