The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Mubarak Bello, for illegal possession of firearms and impersonation of a police officer during a routine patrol in Katsina.
The arrest, made on September 13, 2025, at about 2.30am, led to the recovery of several incriminating exhibits.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, operatives attached to the department of operations, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Bello Shehu, intercepted Bello while driving a Toyota Corolla (ash colour, Lagos registration GGE 473 BH).
The suspect, from Kofar Yamma quarters, Kurfi Local Government Area, failed to provide a satisfactory account of himself or the vehicle, prompting a search.
The search resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated rifle, four live cartridges, two expended shells, a fake police identity card and an additional vehicle plate number registered in Kano (FGE 68)
DSP Aliyu stated that Bello remains in custody as investigations continue to determine the source of the weapon, the fake police ID, and the motive behind the impersonation.
He assured the public of the command’s commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led operations and proactive policing.
