Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle with 63 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect, Shehu Malami, 47, was arrested on April 29, at Ogor Market in the Ughelli area following credible intelligence, according to the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe.
Edafe said the suspect later led operatives to a hideout in Agbarha-Otor, where the rifle and ammunition were recovered.
Preliminary investigations according to him, indicate that the suspect is part of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri, and surrounding areas.
He said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.
In a related development, police recovered another AK-47 rifle, six rounds of ammunition, and a Beretta pistol from a bush near the Customs checkpoint along the Benin–Asaba Expressway.
