The Nasarawa State Police Command has cleared the Lafia-Akwanga Highway after a suspected kidnapper was neutralised by police patrol teams on Monday morning.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, a patrol team attached to Nasarawa Eggon Division had discovered an attempted kidnapping incident near Rice Mill, Nasarawa Eggon, where unknown armed men had barricaded the highway.
The PPRO said that, upon sighting the police, the suspects opened fire, prompting a swift response from the operatives.
One suspect was neutralised, while others fled with possible gunshot wounds.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has mobilised a reinforcement team to secure the area and restore normalcy, adding that the highway is now safe for motorists.
The PPRO added that the deceased suspect was identified as Auta Habu, involved in several criminal activities.
