Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralised a suspected kidnapper during a gun battle.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Aina Adesola, said the suspect was neutralised by the CP’s Special Assignment Team in Ohoror community along Ughelli-Patani road.
He explained that acting on intelligence, the police stormed Ohoror where suspects were sighted and that upon spotting the police, the suspects opened fire, leading to a gun battle.
He said that in the gun duel, one of the suspected kidnappers sustained serious gunshot injuries while others fled the scene, adding that the injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
The commissioner further disclosed that one K-2 rifle, two locally made guns and a bag containing live ammunition and cartridges were recovered from the scene.
He added that a manhunt for the fleeing suspects was ongoing.
