A Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the marine unit of the Lagos command at the weekend died in a boat mishap along the Elegbeta water channel, Apapa, Lagos.

 The officer, Oluwayomi Amao, was said to have died during a desperate search for a suicide victim.

 The boat which Amao and a colleague were using for the search was said to have capsized after it ran over a submerged object at the Elegbeta channel area of the lagoon.

 A police source said that while the other policeman was able to swim to the shore, the DSP could not as a result of the injury he sustained.

 The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the incident.
