A Police officer escorting a truck conveying frozen food on Sunday shot to death a taxi driver at the popular Rumuokoro axis of Port Harcourt, Daily Trust has learnt. 

The incident which occurred around the Rumuokoro Roundabout in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area caused pandemonium in the area as policemen took over the scene and shot sporadically.

An eye witness said the policeman, after the incident, ran off with the driver of the truck, and that policemen stormed the scene and evacuated the remains of the decease.

The eye witness said angry youths barricaded the popular East-West road thereby causing a gridlock. The youths demanded that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Zaki, should fish out the perpetrators of the act to face prosecution.

Rivers State Police Command spokesman, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, did not confirm the story as at press time.
