Tears flowed from from about 20 wives of deceased police officers and their children when they collected a cheque of N166 million given to them by the Inspector General of Police.
The widows, on Wednesday, further appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, for financial assistance for their children’s education, saying that life had not been easy for them since the death of their breadwinners.
Some of the widows who spoke to our correspondent during the presentation of cheques to them by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, said the money came at a time when they felt that life was falling and crashing on them.
One of the beneficiaries, Saraya Garuba, said things became extremely difficult for her after the demise of her husband, late Police Inspector Garba.
Earlier, CP Fayoade said the money came from the IG’s Insurance and a group life insurance.
