The Ekiti State Police Command has paraded 14 suspects for offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery to murder.
Six of the suspects were arrested in connection with kidnapping, rape and defilement.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Babatunde Mobayo, said the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on September 19, 2022, arrested Abu Tobi, Falodun Ojo, Ogundele Tope and Adams Saheed for kidnapping the duo of Oyetuyi Taiwo and Ibitoyi Pelumi.
CP Mobayo, represented by the command’s spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the suspects were arrested in Soludero Hotel, Isan-Ekiti.
The CP said, “On September 18, 2021, Abu Tobi, Falodun Ojo and Ogundele Tope left Ayede-Ekiti on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle, arrived Isan-Ekiti at about 3:30pm and settled at a drinking joint in Isan-Ekiti very close to Soludero Hotel where their targets were lodging. They also invited one Adams Saheed to join them before carrying out their plan.
“At about 08:30pm of the same day, the suspects moved into the hotel and abducted the two victims after which they started demanding ransom of N20m from their families.”
The police also said one Ibrahim Hassan was arrested on September 19, 2021, for abducting two people on Ayede- Ekiti Road with his gang.
The CP assured that other suspects on the run would be nabbed and brought to justice.
Eighteen-year-old Oluwaseun was also paraded for defiling a three-year-old girl.
The CP said, “Investigation revealed that the suspect lured the minor into his room on August 6, 2021, at about 3:50pm where he had carnal knowledge of her. The victim was thereafter taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.
“Expert report proved that there was a penetration into the private part of the victim. Meanwhile, further investigation revealed that when the grandmother of the victim heard about the incident, she demanded the sum of N50,000 from the parents of the suspect for amicable settlement of the case.
“The said money was paid to her and she converted it into her personal use. She was also arrested and shall be charged to court alongside the suspect for compounding felony and defilement respectively.”
Meanwhile, one Ayodeji Ojo, was paraded for raping, and other suspects for burglary, stealing and robbery.
