The Police in Ogun State have paraded three suspects for allegedly killing one Ahmed Obisanwo, a 24-year-old 400-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.

The suspects: Idowu Ayodele, Segun Ogunsanwo and Akeem Salisu, who are  believed to be members of a local community vigilante group, allegedly murdered the victim and threw his body into a river.

Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, said the trio had invaded a hotel in Ijebu-Igbo area of the state on August 8, and dispossessed lodgers of their valuables.

He said the suspects during the raid of the hotel also arrested two persons, including the deceased.

The police boss said one of the persons arrested by the suspects escaped from them, while the other (Obisanwo) who remained with them was allegedly killed and his corpse thrown into a flowing stream in Ijebu-Igbo.

Makama said, “There was a complaint and we worked on that which led to the arrest of these people and the recovery of these weapons. On further interrogation, they said the other person that was taken had been killed and thrown into a river. We asked them to identify the river so we can go there and conduct a search and recover his remains.

“One of them claimed to be a member of So Safe Corps (a local vigilante group) but the boss has outrightly denied that. One of the weapons is painted in police colour. They will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Speaking with newsmen, one of the suspects, Akeem Salisu, denied the alleged killing, saying his group was commissioned by the community to rid it of cultists and thugs.

Salisu added that his group usually arrested cultists and thugs in the community and dropped them at the police station in order to ensure peace and security in the area.
