The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of Okai Ahani by vigilantes in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area. The incident, captured in a viral video, shows men in vigilante uniforms kicking the victim in the face and other parts of his body.

The video, seen by Daily Trust, also depicts the vigilantes tearing the victim’s shirt and dragging him on the ground. They can be heard asking, “Why did you ask them to video us?”

CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson, stated that Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

Yamu condemned all forms of unlawful assault, cruel treatment, and abuse of authority by individuals or groups, regardless of their affiliation.

“The police are aware of a disturbing incident involving the alleged brutalization of Okai Ahani by individuals identified as members of a local vigilante group in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area,” he said.

He warned that the command will not tolerate acts of impunity or human rights violations, irrespective of the status of those involved.
