The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi, AIG Zacharia Fera Achinyan, has ordered a thorough investigation into the fire outbreak that gutted the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Base in Makurdi, Benue State.
The fire, which occurred on Sunday, destroyed several offices and critical facilities, including the armoury at the Mopol headquarters located near the State Police Command Headquarters.
AIG Achinyan gave the directive to probe the incident on Monday during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected facility.
A statement issued by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, ASP Ayo Oluwaseun Martins, on behalf of the AIG, indicated that the AIG was received by the State Commissioner of Police and the Commanding Officer of the 13 Police Mobile Force, Makurdi, to inspect the extent of the damage.
Expressing concern over the incident, the Zone 4 police boss directed the Commissioner of Police to immediately commence a diligent and comprehensive investigation to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
He also reassured residents that the situation has been brought under control and urged the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, noting that adequate security measures have been put in place to secure the facility.
