Oodua Trust gathered that the bursar allegedly colluded with some staff of the institution to commit the fraud.The suspects now being detained at the police headquarters, Akure, were arrested following a tip off.

It was also learnt that some staff of the bursary department had collaborated with officials of First Bank Plc Owo, to facilitate the fraud.

An inside source who said the fraud was uncovered by the school authorities, explained that  “the school authorities were in the bank to withdraw some money to pay the part-time workers who are presently on strike. In the course of bank transactions, the schools management detected that N60m had been deducted from the school account by unknown persons.”

It was learnt that the acting bursar who claimed that his signature was forged, was on sick bed when he was arrested by policemen in Owo.

It was learnt that some workers in the institution who are allegedly involved in the matter, had taken to their heels for fear of arrest.  The Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO] Adeniran Aremu [ASP], confirmed the arrest of the acting bursar.

He added that the case has already been transferred to the state police headquarters in Akure, saying that investigations were on-going. The Rector of the institution, Dr Soji Omowole, could not be reached for comments.
