The Ondo State Police Command yesteday disclosed that it raided a cult gathering and arrested five alleged cultists in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement on Sunday in Akure, said the arrest was carried out by the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS).

According to him, on March 27, the command received credible and actionable intelligence from vigilant members of the public indicating that a group of individuals suspected to be cultists were converging on a residential building.

The suspects include Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele and Akeju Idowu.

He said the suspects were reportedly engaged in a secret meeting, during which they were chanting cult-related slogans and exhibiting behaviours consistent with cult activities, thereby raising concerns about public safety.

He said a team of operatives from SACS was immediately mobilised to the location and upon arrival, the operatives tactically cordoned off the area and successfully apprehended the suspects.

He said preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects are members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity, a secret cult group associated with violent crimes, unlawful gatherings, and threats to public peace and order.

“The suspects are currently in police custody and have made useful statements that are aiding the investigation.
