The Yobe State Police Command has arrested three suspected hoodlums and recovered dangerous weapons during a raid on criminal hideouts in Damaturu, the state capital.

The suspects were apprehended during a patrol operation conducted by operatives attached to the ‘B’ Division of the command in the Maisandari and Moduri areas of the metropolis.

Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Damaturu.

He said the operation was carried out following directives by the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, aimed at tackling youth violence, hooliganism and other criminal activities across the state.

According to him, the suspects, all residents of Moduri ward, were arrested in possession of dangerous weapons and suspected charms allegedly used for protection during violent clashes and other criminal activities.

The suspects were identified as Yusuf Garba, 19; Dauda Kolo, 22; and Rabiu Hamza, 20.

Items recovered from them included four knives measuring about 20 inches each, four heavy sticks and a machete.

The police said investigations were ongoing to determine the motive behind the possession of the weapons and to track down other members of the group who are currently on the run.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, while intensifying efforts to combat youth hooliganism, drug abuse and other violent crimes in the state.

The commissioner of police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies for prompt action.
