Zamfara state police command has rearrested 8 out of 18 inmates set free when suspected thugs broke into Gusau Remand Home to free their friend, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, has confirmed.

Suspected armed thugs had earlier broken into the remand home in Gusau, the state capital to free one Ibrahim Ajala on the instruction of his mother.

The inmate was remanded at the home over suspected murder charges.

One of the arrested jail breakers Isya Aliyu who confessed to have committed the crime told Daily Trust that they were hired by the mother of one Ibrahim Ajala who was detained by the police over murder charges to free her son and she promised to pay them N500,000 if they succeeded.

The suspect, Aliyu further explained that they used ladder to scale the fence of the Gusau Remand Home and they succeeded in freeing him alongside 18 others before they were arrested by the police days later.

"Police trailed and got us arrested some days later. I was sleeping in my room when armed policemen bulldozed their way into the house to pick me up. However, I can’t precisely tell the whereabouts of the person we set free and his mother. I’m regretting my action," he confessed.

The police commissioner said his command is giving the remaining suspects a hot trail and they would soon be apprehended.

He said those who escaped would have nowhere to hide as 8 of them had already been nabbed.

"Let the escaped inmates understand that if they had run to sea, that sea will be boiling for them. We have spread our nets and we will soon fish them out. Investigation is ongoing at the state command Criminal Investigation Department and appropriate measures are being put in place to arrest the fleeing ones," he added.
