The Kano State Police Command has recovered a total of 47 firearms from armed robbers and bandits operating in the state.

Over 819 live ammunitions and 1,117 cartridges were said to have been recovered between January and August, 2018.

The spokesman of the command, SP Magaji Musa Majia, said in a statement issued yesterday that the weapons were recovered through raids carried out in various criminal hideouts in the state.

“These arms and ammunitions were all recovered from armed robbers and bandits in various locations in the state.

“The raids of criminal hideouts, dens and black spots will be sustained with a view of controlling and flushing out all criminals in the state” Majia added.

He said that was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim K. Idris on mopping up of illegal arms and ammunitions from unauthorized persons.

Meanwhile, the state police command says it has recorded significant decrease in the rate of crime across the state.

Its spokesman, SP Majia, attributed the reduction in crime rate to the community policing initiative of the state Police Commissioner, Rabi’u Yusuf. He said between January and August 2018, a total of 2,564 cases were recorded with 4,416 suspects charged to various courts for prosecution across the state.

Majia also said 2,117 convictions were gained within the period under review while 450 cases were discharged with no conviction.
