The police in Lagos have arrested a yet to be identified woman at a commercial motor park at Maza Maza with a bag full of .38mm live ammunition.
The police authority in the state, however, refused to disclose the name of the female suspect, saying that doing so would jeopardize investigation that would lead to the arrest of other members of the gang.
It was learnt that the suspect had attempted to board a commercial bus to Onitsha, Anambra State, before she was arrested.
Spokesman of the police in Lagos State, Bala Elkana, said on July 24, at about 11.15am, Satellite Police Station received information from a credible source that a bag containing suspicious item was smuggled into a motor park for onward transfer to Onitsha, Anambra State by unknown persons.
He said based on the information, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chike Oti, deployed his surveillance team to the motor park at Maza Maza to recover the bag.
“Upon searching the bag, 50 rounds of .38mm live ammunition hidden inside a garri bag was recovered. A female who claimed that the bag was given to her by a man in Ojo area to deliver to someone at Onitsha was arrested and she is helping police investigation.
“The case has been transferred to SARS for further investigation,” he said.
