A naked female corpse dumped in a drainage at the Nyiman Layout of Makurdi metropolis was on Monday evacuated by the police in Benue State.

Our correspondent gathered that the yet-to-be identified corpse was believed by spectators to have been raped to death and her body dumped in the drainage in front of a church in the area.

Spokesperson of the police in the state, DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed that the corpse was recovered by the police in the early hours of Monday, said investigation has commenced into the incident.

Anene said the police cannot say at the moment who the dead person was until the determination of her identity through an autopsy.
