The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects involved in theft, cattle rustling, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities across the state.
The operations, carried out through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with local vigilante groups and neighborhood watch personnel, led to the recovery of a stolen motor vehicle, four motorcycles, seven cows, three sheep, and over 5,800 assorted illicit drugs.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the Command’s sustained efforts against criminality have continued to yield positive results across various local government areas.
It said on May 15, police operatives working alongside local vigilantes, apprehended two suspects, Isiyaku Isah, 26, and Musa Yakubu, 25, both from Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The suspects were found in possession of a red Boxer motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from Dabar Lantana in neighboring Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly stole the motorcycle and transported it into Jigawa State.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, with efforts ongoing to identify and hand over the motorcycle with its rightful owner.
In another operation on May 19, police officers attached to Malam Madori Division, in collaboration with members of the neighborhood watch, recovered two motorcycles, one cow, and three sheep while pursuing suspected thieves.
The suspects reportedly abandoned the stolen items and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting security operatives.
The same day, police arrested one Emos Monday from Karshi in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, for allegedly diverting a company vehicle entrusted to him for an official assignment.
Investigators said the suspect was assigned to travel to Kano State with a white Toyota Hiace bus bearing registration number APP 235 JM Lagos but instead disappeared with the vehicle.
Acting on credible intelligence, police tracked down the suspect and successfully recovered the vehicle.
On May 21, police operatives arrested Umar Garba, 22, of Kanti Gabas village in Kazaure Local Government Area and Abubakar Adam, 25, of Brigade Quarters in Kano State over the alleged theft of a Daylong motorcycle.
According to investigators, the suspects attempted to conceal the identity of the motorcycle by repainting it from its original red color to black. The motorcycle has since been recovered as evidence.
The operatives also intercepted a white J5 vehicle loaded with four cows suspected to have been stolen along the Kano-Maiduguri Road in Kiyawa Local Government Area on May 20.
Five suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, Ukasha Abubakar, 30, of Kano State; Alhaji Ali Ibrahim, 42, of Borno State; Ali Zakari, 20; Mohammed Adamu, 40, of Bauchi State; and Mohammed Usman, 50. Both the vehicle and the livestock were recovered and taken into police custody.
Similarly, on May 22, police arrested two additional suspects, Nabagara Bura, 20, and Sale Adamu, 25, both residents of Tafa village in Bulangu District, over alleged involvement in cattle rustling.
The suspects were apprehended with two cows believed to have been stolen from Shanwure Village in Auyo Local Government Area.
The police also recovered 5,886 assorted illicit drugs and seized N28,750 suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
Several suspected drug dealers were arrested, including Audu Faruku of Sule Tankarkar, Muntari Abdullahi of Babura, Musbahu Ali of Garki, Alfa Mohammed of Gabasawa in Kano State, and Rabiu Hussaini of Kazaure.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, commended officers and men of the Command for their dedication and professionalism.
He also praised members of the public, vigilante groups, and neighborhood watch personnel for their support and cooperation with security agencies.
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property throughout Jigawa State and urged residents to continue providing useful information that would assist law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
“The cooperation of the public remains crucial in our collective effort to maintain peace and security across the state,” the statement noted.
The Police Command disclosed that all suspects currently in custody will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
