Police repel bandits’ attack in Zamfara, arrest Buharin Daji’s son

The police in Zamfara State have repelled an attack on two communities in the state and arrested the son of the slain cattle rustling kingpin, Buharin Daji.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, stated this while parading the suspect before newsmen in Gusau.

Ebrimson said there was an attempt by a group of armed bandits to attack the two communities of Chali and Gobirawa in Maru Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Monday which was frustrated by the command’s police tactical operation teams.

“On receiving the distress call, we quickly mobilised security personnel comprising members of the police Counter-Terrorism Unit and police mobile personnel to the scene. They engaged the bandits in a gun battle which led to the arrest of one of the bandits.

“The bandit, Zakowa Buhari was later identified as the son of Buharin-Daji, a notorious bandits’ kingpin who was killed in March this year, while the other bandits beat a retreat to the bush.

“One AK-47 rifle, with two rounds of live ammunition and 77 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered and the suspect is in police custody assisting with information,” he added.
