Police repel bandits, rescue 15 abductees in Niger

The police in Niger State have repelled some bandits and rescued 15 abducted victims in Jellako village of Rafi Local Government Area.

According to the spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, “In an ongoing clearance operation as part of effort to curb or eradicate banditry and other criminality in the state, on 09/05/2022 at about 2030hrs, based on a tip off that suspected armed bandits were sighted around Jellako village, Rafi LGA, the police immediately move in.

“Consequently, as a result of the firing power of the tactical teams, the bandits fled the scene and some of them escaped into the forest.

“While the hoodlums scampered for their lives, they abandoned two of their motorcycles and 15 victims abducted at different locations.”

The police spokesperson further said the victims were rescued unhurt and taken to a nearby hospital, noting that they would soon be reunited with their families.
