Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued 13 kidnapped passengers who were reportedly abducted on May 10 along the Benin-Sapele road, close to Ologbo community, in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state, at gun point and whisked into the bush.

The victims were traveling in a commercial bus heading towards Lagos from Akwa lbom State when they were kidnapped by gunmen.

Shortly after the incident, the suspected kidnappers reportedly contacted the passengers’ families, demanding N30 million each from the victims.

The police immediately mobilised into the forest for bush combing, leading to the rescue of three of the passengers, leaving 10 victims in captivity.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the victims were rescued by the anti-kidnapping, Violent Crime Response and Drone Units of the command.

She said five of the victims, including two male adults and three children were first rescued, while two others were rescued a few days after.

According to her, the operatives have been on the trail of the kidnappers, which resulted in the rescue of the remaining victims.

She said the rescued victims have been reunited with their family.
