Operatives of the Edo State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, have rescued 14 kidnapped victims from gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on the Fugar-Agenebode road in the EtsakoEast Local Government Area of the state.

Reports indicate that armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, ambushed and blocked the highway, opening fire on unsuspecting commuters, killing two persons on the spot and abducting others into the bush.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that the police received a report that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had blocked the road, waiting to kidnap travelers.

He said the command immediately mobilized operatives from Agenebode, along with local vigilantes and hunters, who responded swiftly and pursued the assailants into the forest.

During the encounter, a gun duel ensued along Obe Hill by the pipeline leading to Ajaokuta, which led to the successful rescue of 14 kidnapped victims unharmed.

Yamu noted that, unfortunately, a 12-year-old girl was shot by the fleeing kidnappers during the crossfire.

According to him, one female victim is still unaccounted for, and search efforts are ongoing to rescue her unharmed.
