Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued 16 kidnapped victims in Edo State.

The victims, it was learned, were rescued by the police in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters in a separate operation.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed that the victims were rescued in separate, coordinated operations carried out along the Benin–Lagos and Benin–Akure Roads.

He said the victims were kidnapped on August 23, 2025, by armed kidnappers who had blocked the highways.

This, he said, prompted a swift mobilization of a security team upon receiving a distress call.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, led a rescue team comprising police officers, hunters, and vigilantes in bush-combing operations along the Benin–Akure Road to rescue and secure the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

The operation led to the rescue of six victims on the Benin–Akure Road and another three on the Benin–Lagos Road.

He added that one person who sustained a gunshot injury during the attack was rescued from the scene by public-spirited individuals and is currently responding to treatment.

Seven other victims from the Benin-Akure Road kidnap also regained their freedom on August 25, 2025.

He said the Commissioner of Police assured that the command would not relent until the remaining victims are safely rescued and the perpetrators apprehended.
