Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued 16 passengers who were kidnapped by suspected gun-men in the state.
Gunmen reportedly kidnapped the occupants of an 18-seater bus belonging to the New Edo Line transport company and a Toyota Camry on the Benin-Sobe-Auchi road on Friday.
The incident is said to have occurred between the Odemwingie and Obarenren communities.
According to a community source, the gunmen ambushed the vehicles, intercepted them at gunpoint, and forced the occupants into the bush after shooting sporadically.
Shortly after the incident, a combined team of security personnel, including the police, army, local vigilantes, and hunters, began a search operation to rescue the victims.
The spokesperson for the police in the stated, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident.
He said while the kidnapping took place on Friday, police have successfully rescued 16 of the passengers un-harmed.
