Police and hunters say they have rescued two people abducted from Plateau State in Taraba State.

The police and local hunters in Taraba acted following a report of suspicious movement by a group of kidnappers at Isinyi Forest at Tapga Village in Ibbi LGA of the state, which led to the rescue of two kidnapped people.

The two victims, Alhaji Safiyanu and Abubakar Isa, were abducted from Bashar town in Wase LGA of Plateau State and brought to Isinyi Forest in Ibbi LGA of Taraba State which shares border with Plateau.

The police spokesman, Taraba State Command, SP Usman Abdullahi, said the movement of the kidnappers with their victims into the forest was suspicious and police and hunters were notified.

According to him, police and hunters quickly went into the forest, where they engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle forcing the hoodlums to abandon their victims.

He said the victims, all chained by the kidnappers, were rescued alive and taken to a hospital in Ibbi town and are responding to treatment

The Taraba police commissioner, Ukachi Opara, commended his men and the local hunters for their efforts in rescuing the two kidnapped victims and also lauded the Tapga residents for promptly informing the police of the movement of kidnappers from neighbouring Plateau into the forest in Taraba State.
