The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has rescued 27 kidnapped and trafficked victims and arrested 178 suspects for various offences including armed robbery, kidnapping and murder, among others.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Uyo, adding that the command also recovered 69 firearms, 468 rounds of ammunition, 23 bags of suspected Indian hemp, and three stolen vehicles.
He said the arrests included 27 suspects for armed robbery, six for kidnapping, 14 for murder, 49 for cultism, 22 for vandalism, and 60 for burglary and stealing.
He highlighted a major breakthrough involving the arrest of a suspected drug kingpin, Francis Akpan, 40, and four others at Okobo Ebughu in Mbo Local Government Area, where 23 bags of suspected Indian hemp, a motorcycle, and dismantled outboard engines were recovered.
Azare reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime in the state.
