Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and rescued three abducted victims in separate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, said the victims were rescued in Iyamho and Idumobi communities in Etsako West and Esan Central LGAs respectively.
He said the operations were carried out by the police in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps, local vigilantes and hunters.
Yamu explained that the neutralised suspect was killed during the rescue of one Rose Aigbokhan, 52, who was abducted while working on her farm in Idumobi.
“During the operation, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel. One of the suspects was neutralised, while the others abandoned their victim and fled,” he said.
He added that a locally made shotgun and a cutlass were recovered, while efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
Yamu further disclosed that in another operation, two brothers, Abraham, 25, and Jessy, 19, were rescued at Iyamho.
He said the police stormed the kidnappers’ hideout following intelligence and came under fire from the suspects, who later fled due to the police’s superior firepower.
He confirmed that all rescued victims had been reunited with their families and that efforts were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators for prosecution.
