Police in Anambra State have rescued six journalists who were abducted along the Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala while travelling from Lagos to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Thursday, said joint security forces carried out the rescue operation.
He said efforts are ongoing to locate a seventh crew member who remains missing.
The National Secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) had earlier raised concerns about the abduction of sports journalists travelling to Uyo for the Super Eagles match against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.
SWAN urged state leaders to provide accurate information regarding any members involved. The association reassured members that the welfare of its journalists remains a top priority.
