Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued an abducted two-year-old child and arrested a suspect, identified as Fejiro Obaduemu, 29, in connection with the incident.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the child was rescued by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri, on May 10, 2026.

According to him, the suspect, who resides on Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was intercepted by vigilant residents while allegedly carrying the child concealed inside a sack, raising suspicion of child theft.

Edafe said the swift intervention of the police prevented an angry mob from lynching the suspect at Igbudu Market in Warri.

He explained that police operatives immediately stormed the scene, rescued both the suspect and the child, and evacuated them to safety.

The police spokesman added that the suspect, who sustained injuries from the mob attack, was taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for treatment before being taken into custody for further investigation.

He disclosed that the rescued child had been reunited with the parents in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.

Edafe said the suspect allegedly confessed that he was sent by an unidentified accomplice in Warri to steal the child.

He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the alleged accomplice and unravel the wider network linked to the crime.
