Police rescue kidnap victims in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued nine kidnapped victims including five passengers of the GUO Transport Company bus kidnapped along the Benin–Ore Expressway on April 18, in the state.

The rescued victims were kidnapped in two separate kidnapping incidents that occurred on the Benin-Ore road and Imeagbai community in Etsako East Local Government of Edo State.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, in a statement said the victims of the GUO attack and others were rescued alive during bush combing operations.

She said the coordinated bush-combing operations, and strategic domination of the area exerted pressure on the kidnappers, leading to the safe rescue of all victims.

She further disclosed that the command also rescued four other kidnapped victims held in captivity within the Imiegba forest in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of the state.

According to her, the rescue of four victims in Agenebode forest brings the rescued victims to a total of nine.

She said the security deployment along the Benin–Lagos Expressway and adjoining communities has been significantly strengthened and secured for road users.
