Police in Enugu State have rescued a kidnapped pregnant woman, Mrs Chinwendu Igwe, from her captors.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement Sunday, said Mrs Igwe was abducted around 9:45 am last week Wednesday along Eke-Egede Road in the Udi Local Government Area of the state.

She was travelling from Lagos to her parents’ home in Egede, Udi LGA, with her two children when she was kidnapped, the police spokesman said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Mrs Igwe was travelling without assistance despite being in her expected period of delivery. She reached Ninth Mile around 9 p.m. and boarded a commercial motorcycle due to the lack of convenient transportation. However, on the way, the abductors attacked them, kidnapped Mrs Igwe, marched her into the forest, and left the motorcyclist and children behind,” he said.

He said the kidnapped pregnant woman was rescued by the police in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group and Forest Guards without ransom payment.

Two male suspects linked to the kidnapping had been arrested, he added.
