Police in Cross River State have confirmed that they have rescued a young woman who was kidnapped over five days ago.

The PRO of the state police command, Irene Ugbo, told Daily Trust that when they got information about the kidnap gang they went after them and there was exchange of gun fire.

"In the process of the cross fire unfortunately one of the gang members fell but we are happy that we were able to rescue the woman who was kidnapped five days ago in the bush," she said.

Irene said she was kidnapped along with her car in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state, adding that they operated more like armed robbers.

She said those arrested by the police will soon be charged to court after investigation.
