The Edo State Police Command has rescued a 57-year-old farmer, Mrs Vivian George, from captivity in Igbanke, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

She said the victim was rescued through a joint operation involving the police, the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) and local hunters during a bush-combing exercise in the area.

 

According to Ikoedem, on May 16, 2026, one Chinedu George, 18, reported that he and his mother were abducted by suspected kidnappers on their way to their farm at Ottah Community in Igbanke.

 

She said the teenager escaped from the abductors and alerted security operatives.

 

“Following the report, operatives immediately mobilised alongside members of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) and local hunters into the forest on a rescue operation,” she said.

 

Ikoedem added that the security team encountered the kidnappers during the operation and engaged them in a gun duel.

 

She said the suspects fled into the forest with gunshot injuries and abandoned the victim.

 

According to her, Mrs George was rescued unhurt and has since reunited with her family.
