Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued several kidnapped victims and arrested five suspects in connection with the abduction of travelers in the state.

The suspects—identified as Dafiaga Timothy, Samuel Omonigho (31), Henry Christmas (22), Ovo Wilson Junior (alias “Sheboy,” 24), and Emakpo Ubiaro Abel (36)—were apprehended by the police in collaboration with the military and local vigilantes.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, said the police received a report on February 4, 2026, that armed hoodlums had kidnapped a group of passengers and whisked them into the bush.

He noted that two of the victims managed to escape and promptly raised the alarm, triggering a coordinated response involving the police, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups.

He added that following sustained pressure from the joint security team, the kidnappers abandoned the remaining victims, who were subsequently rescued unhurt.

He said one of the suspects, Dafiaga Timothy, was later arrested while attempting to withdraw money using one of the victims’ ATM cards at a POS point in the Adeje community.

‘’Following Timothy’s interrogation, the police arrested four additional members of the kidnapping syndicate on March 31,’’ he said.

Edafe added that among those arrested was a tricycle rider who allegedly transported gang members to and from their operational locations.

“On April 13, 2026, operatives raided their hideout located at Oka Junction, Agbarho, and recovered one fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and one locally made gun with seven live cartridges,” Edafe stated.

The command explained that the syndicate has been linked to a series of kidnapping and armed robbery incidents across Warri, Sapele, Agbarho, Ughelli, and adjoining areas.
