The police in Anambra State have ruled out suicide as the probable cause of the death of a man found hanging in a room in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State.

The body of 22-year-old Peter Osakwe was said to have been discovered hanging in his 27B Enweonwu residence in Onitsha last week Tuesday. It was gathered that the deceased had gone to bed the previous day, hale and hearty, only for his body to be discovered the next day hanging from a rope tied to the roof of the room.

In the police report released barely 24 hours after the investigation began, police spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed, said a medical examination conducted on the corpse revealed some marks, indicating that he might have died in the process of a struggle.

The statement signed by the spokesman, said police detectives attached to Inland Town Division visited the scene, took photographs of the victim and  took him to the General Hospital in Onitsha where he was confirmed dead.

Mohammed said post mortem examination conducted in the hospital also indicated that the probable cause of death might not be suicide as marks of violence on the deceased’s lower arms and pubic regions were suggestive of murder. He said investigation was on to determine the cause of death.
