The police in Bayelsa State have arrested 15 members of an armed robbery gangs who have been terrorising the state in the last one month.
The Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah, who briefed journalists in Yenagoa, said the command has also recovered about 49 makes of arms various from the hoodlums.
He said: “The command has deliberately targeted and smashed a cluster of 15 armed robbery gangs and arrested suspects. We have also mopped up 49 illegal firearms in the hands of criminal elements in the state, as well as recover stolen property.”
He also said the command has arrested over 50 members of different cult groups, and some of them have been charged to court.
Awunah also announced the arrest of 15 drug peddlers in the state and the recovery of several weeds suspected to be Indian hemp with them. He added that the command has initiated inter-agency collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to properly investigate the suspects.
