The police in Kebbi State have arrested a man alleged to be the leader of a car theft syndicate who usually came from Ilorin, in Kwara State, to steal vehicles in the state. 

The suspect, Peter James, a Ghanaian was arrested in Birnin Kebbi while trying to escape with a Toyota Camry car he allegedly stole from where it was parked. 

The state Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Ibrahim said the suspect specialized in coming to the state to steal cars, adding that he was arrested and prosecuted by the police about six months ago for stealing a car but he was released by the court. He returned to the state a few weeks later to steal another car, the CP said. 

While answering questions from journalists, the suspect said he did not steal the car but bought it for N800,000 from someone.

The Commissioner of Police said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation is concluded.
