The Delta State Police Command has arrested 67 male and female suspects over alleged homosexuality and same sex marriage in Warri.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen in Asaba.

Edafe said the suspects were allegedly conducting and attending a same-sex wedding ceremony between one Daniel Pius, the groom (22) and Maxwell Ohwonohwo (20), who is the bride. 

He said the arrest of a male cross-dresser, who claimed to be an actor led to the arrest of others at a hotel located off Refinery Road, Ekpan in Warri.

The command’s image maker alleged that the suspected gay members were holding a gay marriage ceremony at the hotel before the arrest.

According to him, operatives attached to Ekpan Division intercepted a male cross-dresser, who claimed to be an actor.

“Upon interrogation, he confessed that he is a member of a certain gay club and that he was on his way to join his fellow members for a gay marriage ceremony,” he said.

He also said that during investigation, one of the suspects named Abel Daniel (23) alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol and that one male suspect who is at large had sex with him through his anus at the hotel. 

He said items recovered from the venue of the alleged same sex marriage included one codeine syrup bottle,  three cups of refined Canadian loud, five sachets of SK, one sachet of tramadol, four tablets of molly drug, one crusher and gay marriage ceremonial dresses. 

He warned that explicit or implicit public show of amorous relationships between people of the same sex is prohibited in the state.

Edafe added that any act of defiance is detrimental and deviants would be brought to book in accordance with Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013.
