Men of the Anambra state police command have reportedly stormed kidnappers’ hideout in Awgbu, Orumba North LGA of the state and recovered AK-47 rifles with two magazines loaded with 50 rounds of ammunition.
The spokesman of the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said following the smashing of a notorious kidnap gang on Friday night in Awgbu, Orumba North LGA, the police are trailing the fleeing suspected kidnappers.
He said while combing the surrounding bushes on Saturday morning, police and the local vigilantes recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle with double magazines containing 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
He said the weapons have been taken into custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu has taken over the case for proper investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police, he added.
