The supporters, numbering thousands, marched to the INEC office protesting the delay of the release of the presidential and National Assembly elections results in the state.
The protesters, led by the state commissioner for youths and sports, Comrade Kenneth Emeu, immediately after being briefed by APC government officials, hit the streets of Owerri and proceeded to INEC headquarters.
On their approach to the INEC office, security operatives made up of army, police, civil defence and the Department of State Security (DSS) who cordoned off the INEC office in protection of the place, threw teargas to disperse them.
Chuka Onyeka, an APC member, told Daily Trust that they were at the INEC office to find out why the commission has failed to declare results even at the ward level.
He said they came from across the 27 local government areas of the state.
As at the time of filling this report, efforts made to contact the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Adah, failed as the place was taken over by armed soldiers and police.
